I think they are poorly informed about KGB agents in Russia given a free pass in America. In comparison with previous presidents who hope to end the Cold War diplomatic term American Reagen aggressively challenged the Soviet Union in the arms race. Both countries had spies infiltrate the government and those who were discovered in the United States or the Soviet Union were executed or used. Organized crime existed in Russia long before the Cold War, but it was not until the Soviet Union collapsed that crime organized in Russia could work harder, without a strong government take strong measures against them. As citizens of the Soviet Union emigrated to America, Russian mafia connections naturally followed. The FBI still is, and probably always will crack down on organized crime, but the truth is that organized crime no big deal. If the U.S. government wanted, they could concentrate all their military and organized crime devastating, but for the most part is not "organized" crime, usually small things. It is true that much of the KGB entered the lucrative business of organized crime, but I doubt that there is a conscious plan of Putin to use the Russian mafia in the United States gain from Russia. Russia is generally considered an ally now. Russia recognizes they can not compete with the U.S. and it would be foolish of them for testing. They have a reliable government, the U.S. government can actually negotiate with, compared with a country like North Korea. threats to states United are much more real in the scale of the terrorist attacks-large Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and the Taiwan Strait.
