The mafia or ‘Cosa Nostra‘ (translated meaning ‘our thing’) originated in Palermo, Sicily mid 19th century after the unification of Italy. It was originally formed to protect the commoners from the police, government organisations, and criminals. Because of this, they were regarded as heroes, protecting their own people. There was (and still is) one strict rule for ‘mafiosi’ and all those associated with them : the code of silence. Anyone that breaks this rule, would suffer the consequences and fear for their (and their family’s) life. The name ‘Mafia’ comes from the word ‘mafioso’ which in a Palermo dialect is used to describe someone who is ‘beautiful’ and ‘bold’.

The Mafia is specific to Sicily. There are also other crime organisations such as the Camorra from the Naples, the ‘Ndragheta from Calabria, and the Sacra Corona Unita from Apulia.

Camorra – some say that the Camorra could have originated from the Spanish crime group Garduna in the middle ages. It reached it’s peak of success in the 19th century when Naples was under the rule of the Bourbon Monarchy, and many of it’s members were in the army, police force and civil service. After Naples became a part of United Italy in 1861, many camorra members (camorristi) went to the USA to join the Mafia.

‘Ndragheta – The name ‘Ndragheta comes from the Greek word ‘andragathia’ which means ‘heroism’ and ‘virtue’. They are a very powerful and ruthless organised crime group. They differ to the Mafia, in that the groups are made up from blood families, and they tend to keep a low profile. They operate worldwide including in the USA, France, Spain, Australia, Argentina and Germany.

The Sacra Corona Unita Formed in the early 1980’s, this organised crime group from Apulia, mainly Bari.

The Mafia arrived in America in the early 1900’s organised by several leaders, through recruiting Italian immigrants or already existing Mafiosi from Italy. These leaders included Giuseppe ‘Joe the Boss’ Masseria, and Salvatore Maranzano, who was sent by Sicilian boss Don Vito Cascio Ferro, who dreamt of all American crime families being ruled by one leadership. Some others to arrive by these means were Carlo Gambino and Stefano Maggadino. The Unione Siciliana was set up in America to help immigrants from Italy find housing, identities and protection. It came under criticism for just being a masquerade to help and aid the Mafia, although they also helped law abiding citizens too.

I found a few brochures in my backyard and have a map of my neighborhood, and on the location of my home, was a Taj Mahal like building, and there was a road called tightlips way, and that led to a spot marked by a Roman temple. And in the booklet that had maps of my house friends. And there were maps madeup parts of Italy and India. but the road through a forest that I think a backyard. And one of the friends in the map was beaten by a Tightlips mysterious. He made some indications of the mafia. And some neighbors said they saw an Arab boy who spoke bad English, and wore a turban and a robe and veil Arab beach towels made of colored signature settings Pathways Tightlips saying in English, Hindi, and Italian. I think there might be a child who does not live too far, which had been in love with me, and some of my Indian friends. He ended up scaring me and my mom called. And he is Italian, and what do all kinds of things bazaar.

Improbabile sarebbe anche per i seguenti motivi: 1) I mafiosi sono molto e non maschilisti donne tollererebbero. 2) Le Donne caratterialmente not come gruppo Gli uomini fanno, e infatti ci sono ben poche aziende e fondata amministrate donne da solo. 3) Le donne sono e richiede caratterialmente nonviolent mob, almeno potenziale, violenza. Now I can translate what I wrote above in English for foreigners: As one Italian, I speak to you in our language. But why do you ask than answers about the International? Where foreigners know better than us Italians? But I do not think at all. Even would be unlikely for the following reasons: 1) the mobsters are male chauvinists and women would not tolerate. 2) Women of temperament as cohesive group than men, and indeed there are very few companies failed and administered only by women. 3) Women are not violent temper and The Mafia demands, at least potentially, violence.

I have to write this in English …. but anyone can respond in Italian if they wish. Why is there so much racism on YouTube to the Italians? "I just saw on YouTube and saw they were talking about" Guidos "and, obviously, was a kind of insult for an Italian to judge by the images. What is a Guido? Why always stereotyped Italians as gangsters? Qualcuno mi può spiegare? I also noticed that when some Americans of Italian origin who come to Italy believe that the mafia is ….. in Italia non si cool Scherza!

I understand. My grandfather is Sicilian, and hates The Mafia. He does not like the movies The Godfather and other Veiws and negative on the Italians. In the U.S., this lifestyle is idolized, probably because the money and power associated with it. really no sense, but it exists. There are other ethnic groups also idolize this lifestyle. Guido, located primarily in the tri-state area, the 2007 version is different in the 1980s who wore suits and had Iroc Z or trans-ams that always had to hang red horn. Now go tanning, use too much gel in his hair spiky, some bracelets, tight t-shirts, tweezers or wax their eyebrows, often in "gym da" or "da club". I do not understand is that there is no Guidos in Italy! I hope that helped!
